Customer:  Lofthouse Foods / Ralcorp
Location:
Ogden, UT
Project:
Cookie Freezer
Completion Date:
April 2004

Description:    The Louis A. Roser Company designed and constructed the ammonia refrigeration system for this cookie holding freezer.  The freezer consists of 110,000 square feet held at -10oF and a 6,000 square foot dock held at +40oF.  Two penthouses were used for the freezer, with large circulating fans installed in remote areas of the freezer to ensure good air circulation.  The nearly 400 TR system is driven by several Frick RWF-series economized screw compressors.  The system was fully automated by a completely integrated computer control system.

Customer:  Quality Distribution
Location:  West Jordan, UT
Project:  Food Processing & Storage Cooler
Completion Date: June 2006

Description:   This was a Design/Build project where the Louis A. Roser Company worked closely with the customer to create a design solution that would best meet their needs.  The facility required cooling for various rooms including produce and poultry, as well as a holding freezer and a dock.  The total refrigeration tonnage was 117 TRs. For this size of a system, we recommended using R-507 for the refrigerant based on its superior C.O.P., heat transfer ability, and other benefits over “comparable” refrigerants like R-404A.  The system consisted of a parallel Carlyle compressor rack system with variable speed drives, an Evapco condenser, and a total of twelve air unit coils.  We recommended using semi-hermetic screw compressors for this system based on their longer life cycle and less expensive maintenance costs as compared to reciprocating compressors.
